Mid-Century ‘Plexus’ Chairs by Illum Wikkelsø - a Pair
The Plexus chairs, designed by Danish furniture designer Illum Wikkelsø in the 1960s, a striking embodiment of Scandinavian modernism, blending functionality with elegant, organic aesthetics. Created for CF Christensen of Silkeborg, these chairs are part of the innovative Plexus series.
Crafted from luxurious rosewood, the Plexus chairs showcase Wikkelsø’s deep understanding of woodworking, honed through his early training as a cabinetmaker. The frame features clean lines and gentle curves, accented with rattan on the backrest and sides, adding a touch of lightness and texture to the design. The mix of materials is perfection and contrasts wonderfully.
We reupholstered this set in a neutral speckled white wool fabric, extremely soft to the touch. We choose a neutral fabric in order to compliment the chair and not distract from the design elements. In fantastic vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use without breaks in cane.
