“Baby with a Pearl Earring” is a reference to “Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Johannes Vermeer. The ‘Baby’ was created using layers of various gray tones as a base over a Venetian Red ground. Palette and putty knives were used to scrape on colors of pink, blue and neon green. A baby, though small in size, is a force to be reckoned with and an always growing force. To convey that message the ‘Baby’ fills the canvas looking slightly downward and hovering over us. The eyes are blank so that when we look at them we ask, “What are you thinking?” Of course the answer is love, just love.
