Artist Statement
“Who is watching whom? Are we looking at flowers, people or stone monuments? In any case the contrast is strong. The white background and black hill provide the platform for the grey stalks and yellow flowers. The three on the right have wild strokes to show petals while the two on the left are younger and have not fully formed flowers.
In another sense these sentinels are the watchers. They have learned much over time and are ready to share their knowledge with you. Look at them and then ask a question. If you stand quietly and give them a chance, they will answer you.”
